Are You Lost? Or Do You Not Want to Look Their Map?

Another day slips by—another month, another half-year—and you’re still wondering where the time went. Blink, and suddenly, the world has moved on without you. It’s as if the clock ticks faster for us, for this generation, the one that was told to follow a map that no longer leads anywhere. We were promised that if we stayed on the path—good grades, good school, good job—we’d find happiness at the end of it. But here we are, walking roads that feel more like circles, lost not because we missed a turn, but because the directions themselves were always broken.

It’s no wonder our heads feel heavy with thoughts. The weight of overthinking—of not knowing if we’re falling behind or if there’s even a race to run anymore. Anxiety hums beneath our skin like a second heartbeat. So many of us are trapped inside our minds, trying to untangle a future that no longer fits the mold we were handed. We were raised to believe in stability: a nine-to-five, a mortgage, a retirement plan. But when those promises now come with crushing debt and a hollow kind of existence, is it any wonder that we’re beginning to question everything?

We are not aimless—we are unconvinced.

The truth is, we are not lost. We simply see through the illusion. We are a generation waking up to the reality that the maps they gave us no longer reflect the terrain we walk. They told us to pursue degrees that now leave us drowning in loans, to work jobs that drain the life out of us, to chase a version of success that feels increasingly unattainable. But what happens when the promised future is no longer sustainable?

So here we are—hesitant, restless, yet quietly hopeful. There is no clear path ahead, but maybe that’s the point. Maybe the map was always meant to be rewritten.

And we are rewriting it.

The rise of unconventional careers is not a coincidence. Arts, design, media—these were once seen as hobbies, distractions from “real” work. But now, they are lifelines. Influencing and social media, blogging, content creation—these are not just outlets for self-expression. They are viable, valuable careers for those brave enough to chart their own course. And when the “reliable” jobs only offer burnout and disillusionment, why not choose the work that sets your heart on fire?

I am here, trying to make a career out of words—out of the very thing that has always grounded me in a world that feels so unsteady. For many of us, it isn’t just about survival anymore; it’s about reclaiming joy, purpose, and freedom. It’s about crafting a life that makes sense not to them, but to us.

Maybe that’s what scares them most. That we no longer want their maps. That we are willing to get lost in order to find something real.

So if you feel adrift, if the uncertainty keeps you awake at night, know this—you are not broken for questioning the road they laid out for you. You are not lost because you refuse to follow a map that leads to someone else’s version of happiness.

You are simply daring to explore what lies beyond it.
